Yeongdeungpo and Dongdaemun Districts
Set New Records in Fundraising and Donations
Bringing Warmth to the Community
Despite the economic recession, the warm wave of donations for helping neighbors in need through winter relief funds has reached an all-time high.
With the shrinking of local businesses and corporate tax cuts making the economy increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens, fundraising to support vulnerable groups has become more urgent than ever.
Amid this, the warm winter relief donations from Seoul’s autonomous districts such as Yeongdeungpo-gu and Dongdaemun-gu have attracted attention by achieving record-breaking results.
‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Relief’ is a representative winter sharing campaign conducted through cooperation between the district offices and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, running for three months from November last year to February this year.
Yeongdeungpo Residents Achieve Record High in ‘Warm Winter Relief’ Donations
A total of approximately 2.86 billion KRW raised in cash and goods, exceeding the initial goal by 700 million KRW

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Relief’ fundraising campaign successfully concluded by exceeding its target with the highest-ever participation from residents.
A total of approximately 2.86 billion KRW was raised this year, achieving 136% of the original goal of 2.1 billion KRW. This amount is about 200 million KRW more than last year, reflecting the added warmth from the local community and various sectors.
This year, 396 individuals and 1,263 companies and organizations participated, submitting a total of 1,659 cases of donations in cash and goods, showing diverse stakeholders joining in warm sharing. Notably, active participation from companies and organizations stood out. The Yeongdeungpo Chamber of Commerce and SK D&D each donated over 10 million KRW, BYC and Hyundoo Corporation each contributed goods worth approximately 170 million KRW, and Frontier Maru supported with a 100 million KRW cash donation, demonstrating their love for neighbors.
The district conducted the ‘Our Neighborhood Donation Relay’ campaign across 18 neighborhoods to encourage more residents to participate. Through flea markets and experiential events, the culture of sharing was spread, and 29 donation ceremonies were held to express gratitude to donors.
The donated goods were delivered to neighbors in need through local community centers and social welfare institutions, while the funds were used to support living expenses for low-income families and provide supplies for extreme heat and cold seasons. The district plans to manage the collected funds and goods systematically to ensure they reach those who need them most.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I sincerely thank all donors who shared their warm hearts for neighbors in need. We will continue to do our best to create a better Yeongdeungpo by practicing the value of sharing together with our residents.”
