Kim Dong-gon, director of the Seoul Youth Ballet Company, has been inaugurated as the 10th president of the Korea Ballet Association.
The Korea Ballet Association announced on the 18th that the inauguration ceremony for the 9th president Park Jae-hong and the 10th president Kim Dong-gon was held on the 8th at the Ruby Hall of the Shilla Hotel's State Guesthouse. Kim Dong-gon was elected as the 10th president of the Korea Ballet Association at the special general meeting held on December 7 last year at Hansung University DLC.
The term of the new president Kim Dong-gon is three years, until February 2028.
President Kim previously served as the 8th and 9th vice president of the Korea Ballet Association. He expressed his aspirations, saying, "While I have played a role in the efficient operation of the Korea Ballet Association so far, now as president, I will honor the members by expanding their rights and strengthening communication, expand scholarship programs to provide broader opportunities for young ballet dancers, and lead the association to take a step forward through various projects for the development of ballet and cultural arts."
The Korea Ballet Association, a non-profit corporation, was founded in 1980 centered around the late Im Seong-nam, former director of the National Ballet Company, with the aim of popularizing ballet and achieving international advancement. It was incorporated as the Korea Ballet Association in 1998, and its executives and members include current and former directors and members of major domestic ballet companies, university professors and staff, and ballet professionals working in private educational institutions. As the representative association in the ballet field of South Korea, it carries out various projects such as the Seoul International Ballet Festival, Seoul Ballet Competition, Youth Ballet Festival, New Choreographers Showcase, instructor certification, international exchanges, and youth scholarship programs.
