Jeon Young-hyun, Head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division and Memory Business Division, and Song Jae-hyuk, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Semiconductor (DS) Division and Head of the Semiconductor Research Center, are expected to be appointed as inside directors of Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 18th that it will hold the 56th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders at the Suwon Convention Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 19th of next month to approve financial statements and appoint directors and audit committee members.
Jeon Young-hyun is an expert who has overseen the memory business. He has experience serving as CEO of Samsung SDI and has held the position of Head of Future Business Planning at Samsung Electronics before taking charge of the DS Division.
Vice Chairman Song Jae-hyuk is an expert who has led technology development in the memory semiconductor field. After serving as Head of the Flash Development Office and Director of the Semiconductor Research Center, he currently leads semiconductor technology innovation as the CTO of the DS Division.
As outside directors, Professor Lee Hyuk-jae of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University is expected to be newly appointed. Kim Jun-sung, Chief Investment Officer of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Endowment Fund, Professor Heo Eun-nyung of Seoul National University, and Yoo Myung-hee, former Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, are also expected to be reappointed.
Professor Lee Hyuk-jae is an expert in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors. He serves as the Director of the System Semiconductor Industry Promotion Center at Seoul National University and is also active as the Director of the Semiconductor Joint Research Center.
The appointment of audit committee members will also take place at this shareholders' meeting. Former Financial Services Commission Chairman Shin Je-yoon is expected to be newly appointed as an audit committee member, and outside director Yoo Myung-hee will be reappointed as an audit committee member.
Former Chairman Shin Je-yoon is a figure with extensive experience in financial policy and international finance, having served as Chairman of the Financial Services Commission and Chair of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Professor Yoo Myung-hee is expected to perform audit roles related to trade and commerce based on her experience at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Former Chairman Shin is also a strong candidate for the position of chairman of the board.
