Free Rides for Elementary Students, Half-Price Support for Middle and High School Students
Transportation Costs for Experiential Learning Reduced by 680 Million KRW
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 18th that supporting public transportation expenses for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students can save approximately 680 million KRW annually in field trip transportation costs.
Since January of this year, the Office of Education has been providing 50% to 100% support for public transportation costs for elementary, middle, and high school students through the Gwangju G-Pass program.
Elementary school students can use public transportation such as city buses, village buses, and the urban railway for free, while middle and high school students only need to pay half of the 800 KRW fare, which is 400 KRW.
There is no limit on the number of uses per person, allowing students to use public transportation not only for commuting to and from school but also for various field learning activities such as the Free Semester System, club activities, and career exploration.
The Office of Education explained that, based on the assumption that 85,000 middle and high school students who frequently use public transportation take public transit once a month for field trips, approximately 680 million KRW in transportation costs can be saved annually.
