Ministry of Culture Supports Artists' Overseas Expansion Through Online Consulting

Full-scale Promotion of International Cultural Exchange Consulting with KOFICE
1:1 Customized Consulting via Online Consultation Website
Five Regional Briefings to Share Overseas Expansion Cases

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 18th that it will actively promote the international cultural exchange consulting project in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE).

In response to field feedback that many want to engage in international cultural exchange but face difficulties due to lack of information and experience, the Ministry has launched a website providing related information and online customized consultations, and will hold regional touring briefings by international exchange experts.

The international cultural exchange online consultation website offers not only policy information and general information about international cultural exchange projects but also 1:1 customized consultations on specialized inquiries such as characteristics of target countries for overseas expansion, information on performance venues, and festivals. To provide practical and realistic consultations, former directors of overseas Korean Cultural Centers, international exchange planners and experts in fields such as performances and exhibitions will participate as consultants. Consultation applications are accepted through the website.

At the regional touring briefings, experts will share overseas expansion cases in cooperation with local cultural institutions. Starting with Busan (Gyeongsang region) on February 26, a total of five sessions will be held in Jeolla region (April), Chungcheong region (June), Gyeonggi region (August), and Gangwon region (October).

At the first briefing (Busan Citizens Hall), KOFICE and Busan Cultural Foundation’s international exchange support projects will be introduced. Director Gye Myung-guk of Jaraseom Jazz Festival, Seo Jeong-min, a 25-string Gayageum creator (CEO of Project An), and Im Geun-hye, director of Arko Art Center, will give lectures sharing their overseas expansion experiences and methods in the fields of performance planning, performing arts, and exhibition planning. To participate in the briefing, prior online registration is required by the 21st. On-site registration on the day of the event is also possible. If participants leave questions during prior registration, the lecturers plan to answer them on site. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to post the lecture videos on the online consultation website later.

Kim Hyun-jun, Director of International Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “Many local artists want to showcase their works overseas, but they face difficulties due to a lack of necessary information and communication channels. We hope that this online consultation website and regional touring briefings will serve as practical guides for local artists’ overseas expansion. The Ministry will continue to provide necessary information and support so that more artists can go global.”
