It has been found that residents of Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do show favorable health indicators in terms of chronic diseases, blood sugar, and myocardial infarction.


On the 17th, Damyang-gun announced the results of the "2024 Community Health Survey," which identifies local health issues and is used as key public health statistics for community-level health policies.


This survey was conducted from May 16 to July 31 last year, with surveyors visiting the homes of 895 Damyang-gun residents aged 19 and older (from 499 households). They collected data on 172 questions across 17 areas, including health behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and physical activity, as well as the management of chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes.


According to the results of the 2024 Community Health Survey, health behavior indicators were as follows: monthly drinking rate at 52.1% (national average 58.3%), moderate or higher physical activity rate at 40.1% (national average 26.6%), and healthy lifestyle practice rate at 37.4% (national average 36.2%), all showing better levels than the national averages.


Additionally, indicators in the chronic disease morbidity category were also higher than the national averages: blood pressure awareness rate at 67.7% (national average 61.2%), blood sugar awareness rate at 41.8% (national average 28.2%), early symptom awareness rate for stroke at 71.0% (national average 59.2%), and early symptom awareness rate for myocardial infarction at 64.7% (national average 49.7%).


However, the stress awareness rate was 22.2% (national average 23.7%), lower than the national average, while the depression experience rate was 3.4% (national average 6.2%), indicating a favorable level of mental health.


An official from the county said, "We will do our best to utilize the results of the Community Health Survey to promote public health and improve health behaviors by implementing health projects that residents need and can relate to."


Meanwhile, Damyang-gun plans to conduct the 2025 Community Health Survey starting in May.
