On the 17th, the organizing committee held a D-100 citizen briefing session for the success of the '2025 Gumi Asian Athletics Championships' at the Grand Performance Hall of the Culture and Arts Center, sharing the progress of the event preparations with the citizens.

About 700 people attended the event, including the Senior Vice President of the Korea Association of Athletics Federations, city and provincial council members, heads of sports associations and related organizations, and citizens, showing high interest and expectations for the competition.

This briefing session was organized to encourage active interest and participation from citizens and to strengthen the determination for the successful hosting of the event.

The event included ▲ a progress report on the event by the Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau ▲ the appointment ceremony of Ambassador Hwang Young-jo ▲ the appointment ceremony of citizen representative supporters ▲ signing of MOUs in the fields of medical care, accommodation, and transportation.

In particular, there was a meaningful time where all participants prayed for the success of the event along with a success pledge performance with young athletics hopefuls.

Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi City, emphasized, "The success of the event depends on the interest and participation of the citizens. If all citizens unite and prepare thoroughly, this event will go beyond a simple sports event to raise the status of Gumi City and inject new vitality into the local economy."

Meanwhile, the Asian Athletics Championships is the largest athletics competition in Asia, and Gumi City succeeded in hosting it in December 2022. It will be the third time the event is held in South Korea, following Seoul in 1975 and Incheon in 2005, and it will be the first time held in a basic local government area, in Gumi City.

The competition will be held for five days from May 27 to 31, 2025, with about 1,200 athletes from 45 Asian countries competing in 45 events in intense competition.
