Goryeong-gun Restarts Efforts to Attract Group Tourists from Taiwan

In celebration of the 2025 Gyeongbuk Visit Year, Goryeong County in Gyeongbuk has been conducting overseas promotional marketing in collaboration with a local Taiwanese travel agency and Gyeongbuk's dedicated overseas travel agency, Hwaeun International Travel Agency, since December last year. As a result, group tourists from Taiwan have started visiting Goryeong again since the 15th.

Attracting Taiwanese group tourists was actively pursued until before the COVID-19 pandemic, achieving the result of over 1,200 visitors to Goryeong within three months of full-scale overseas marketing, but it had slowed down for a while. In 2024, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Korea increased by 53% compared to the previous year, reaching 1.47 million, ranking third in the inbound market after China and Japan.

Since the end of last year, Goryeong County has worked in cooperation with Hwaeun International Travel Agency to attract Taiwanese group tourists again. They have organized a travel package starting from Taipei, entering through Daegu International Airport, linking Gyeongbuk and Busan for a 4-night, 5-day trip to Korea, including a visit to Goryeong, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where travelers can experience Gaya culture and traditional Korean culture.

Taiwanese group tourists visit the Daegaya Museum and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Jisandong Tumuli (Daegaya ruins), and experience traditional Korean tea ceremony and hanbok at the Daegaya Tea Ceremony Center. On the 15th and 16th, Taiwanese group tourists who visited Goryeong wore Daegaya costumes and had the opportunity to learn traditional Korean etiquette.

County Governor Lee Nam-cheol warmly welcomed the return of Taiwanese group tourists, which had slowed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and urged, “We will warmly welcome visitors so that they can learn about Korea’s unique traditional culture through Goryeong and return with a good image of Korea, ensuring their comfort without any inconvenience.”
