Democratic Party Daegu City Party "Do Not Delay Any Longer the Memorial Park for 192 Dead in Daegu Subway Accident"

Statement Issued on the 22nd Anniversary of the Tragedy

The Democratic Party Daegu City Committee on the 17th urged the creation of a memorial park to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Daegu subway accident, in which 192 people lost their lives.

In a statement released that day, the Democratic Party Daegu City Committee said, "On February 18, 2003, an ordinary day was stained by a horrific tragedy. The Daegu subway disaster took the precious lives of 192 people and left deep wounds on 151 citizens. The families left behind still remain in sorrow from that day even after 22 years. We pray for the repose of the victims and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the injured."

The Democratic Party Daegu City Committee continued, "Even after 22 years, there is not a single memorial park that can fully honor the victims. The bereaved families have trusted and waited for an agreement with Daegu City, but the city has evaded responsibility and let time pass. Promises were not kept, and the desperate cries of the families became empty echoes."

The Democratic Party Daegu City Committee also stated, "The establishment of a memorial park is not just a simple facility. It is a space to remember the victims, fulfill social responsibility, and pledge that such a tragedy will never happen again. Remembering the disaster is our duty and the first step toward a safer future."

The Democratic Party Daegu City Committee urged, "The dead save the living, and the past helps the present. Daegu City must no longer ignore the grief of the bereaved families and must take responsible measures to officially establish a memorial park."
