Graduate School of Education at Silla University (President Heo Nam-sik) plans to develop a teacher training program that inherits the spirit of the Joseon Tongsinsa.
On the 15th, Lee Eun-hwa, Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Silla University, attended the regular general meeting of the Joseon Tongsinsa Commemoration Association held at Hanilok in Tongno-gu, Seoul, where she presented ways to incorporate the historical significance of the Joseon Tongsinsa into modern education.
The Joseon Tongsinsa Commemoration Association (President Lee Myung-hoon, Professor Emeritus at Korea University), which aims to modernly inherit and preserve the diplomatic achievements and cultural exchange spirit of the Joseon Tongsinsa, focused at this general meeting on exploring the academic research and educational utilization possibilities of the Tongsinsa, and discussing ways to inherit these in a modern context to contribute to solving regional educational issues.
In her presentation, Dean Lee emphasized, “The significance of the Joseon Tongsinsa is profound, but if it is not effectively conveyed to future generations, its historical value is likely to remain confined to a few researchers and stakeholders. Succession through education is essential, and especially, teachers must be supported to effectively utilize the historical value and international exchange spirit of the Joseon Tongsinsa in educational settings.”
The Graduate School of Education at Silla University plans to develop a program within the teacher training course that includes the historical significance and educational utilization methods of the Joseon Tongsinsa, helping teachers systematically convey the diplomatic and cultural heritage of the Tongsinsa to students and contribute to fostering an international perspective.
Through the establishment of this training program, it is expected that teachers will be able to effectively utilize the historical significance of the Joseon Tongsinsa in educational settings.
Currently, in the Ulsan region, village teachers are conducting extracurricular education classes using local historical figures as part of school-linked programs. Once the training program from the Graduate School of Education at Silla University is prepared, it is expected that these educational activities will be linked, expanding opportunities for teachers to use more systematic materials and teaching methods.
