Districts, Counties, and Enterprises: Minimum Developable Area of 23,000㎡ Required
"Must Meet Legal and Educational Environment Impact Assessment Standards"
Where will the autonomous private high school in Busan, destined to become a cradle for nurturing financial talent, be established?
The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyung-joon) announced that from the 17th to March 7th, a three-week period, the Site Selection Committee will invite applications for school sites from districts and counties to establish an autonomous private high school for fostering financial talent.
The Site Selection Committee, formed to select the site for the Busan autonomous private high school, consists of eight recommended members from the partner organizations: Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Korea Exchange, and BNK Financial Group.
At the 2nd Site Selection Committee meeting held on the 13th, evaluation criteria and the schedule for site applications were finalized, and the call for sites from districts and counties began, marking the official start of establishing the financial autonomous private high school.
The school site must have a developable area of at least 23,000㎡, must not have any restrictions on school establishment according to relevant laws and regulations, and must meet the standards set by the laws related to educational environment impact assessments.
The application process will be conducted over three weeks from the 17th to March 7th, targeting districts and counties, and enterprises may also participate in cooperation with districts and counties.
The recruitment announcement can be found in the notices section on the Korea Exchange website, and applications must be submitted online. Only applications received by midnight on March 7th will be accepted.
The site selection for the financial autonomous private high school will proceed through site applications and evaluations from districts and counties, on-site inspections, and the final candidate site will be selected by the end of March. Following site selection, the process will continue with the establishment of the school foundation and school establishment approval, aiming for the school to open in March 2029.
In December last year, Busan Metropolitan City, the Metropolitan Office of Education, Korea Exchange, and BNK Financial Group signed an agreement to establish a nationwide autonomous private high school in Busan to improve the educational environment and nurture financial talent befitting Busan’s status as a global financial hub.
Busan Metropolitan City and the Metropolitan Office of Education provide administrative support, while Korea Exchange and BNK Financial Group share the costs of school establishment and operation. After the agreement, the partner organizations each recommended two members to form the ‘Site Selection Committee’ to proceed with selecting the site for the school.
Nam Dong-woo, Busan City’s Financial Startup Policy Officer, said, “We welcome taking the first step toward establishing a financial autonomous private high school to strengthen Busan’s status as a financial hub,” adding, “We will do our best to support the financial autonomous private high school to quickly become a globally prestigious institution.”
