Oh Se-hoon: "Lee Jae-myung seeks gain through division... Must take the path of unity"

Mentions of Lee's Past Remarks One After Another

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon targeted Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Politics that seek to gain from division must now disappear."

On the 17th, Mayor Oh stated on Facebook, "The leader of the main opposition party is not healing the painful reality but is instead leading the country to be torn apart."

Earlier, Lee wrote on Facebook the previous day, "If martial law had been enforced, a 'Korean Killing Field' where kidnapping, torture, and murder are commonplace would have opened." In response, Mayor Oh emphasized, "It is a horrific extreme statement by Lee Jae-myung mentioning martial law that is too terrible to even quote."

Mayor Oh then pointed out Lee’s remarks one by one, saying, "Is this the first time?" These included statements such as "Soon, there will be incidents of police beating and bleeding," "The only condition for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing," and "The Park Chung-hee regime concentrated investment in Gyeongsang Province while neglecting Jeolla Province to incite conflict." Mayor Oh criticized, "Lee Jae-myung’s style of politics has been to seek political gain by dividing and inciting conflict whenever possible."

He further argued that the path forward should be one of unity, not conflict. He said, "In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 citizens identified 'progressive-conservative conflict' as the most serious social conflict," adding, "Uniting a divided people into one?that is the path we must take."
