Threw a 50,000 Won Bill at Subway Staff’s Face
Grabbed Collar and Tore Off Name Tag, Throwing It into Ticket Gate
A man in his 30s who assaulted a subway staff member after being caught trying to use a senior citizen discount transportation card was sentenced to prison.
Judge Lee Dong-ho of the Criminal Division 3 at Incheon District Court announced on the 17th that A (37), who was charged with violating the Railroad Safety Act, was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year probation period and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
A was indicted for assaulting subway staff member B at the Incheon subway station office around 9:05 p.m. on April 5 last year. He used a senior citizen discount transportation card, which is only valid for those aged 65 and older, and when caught by B, he became angry and committed the assault.
A threw a 50,000 won bill at B’s face when B tried to impose a fine. He also grabbed B by the collar and tore off his name tag, throwing it into the ticket gate.
The judge stated, "The defendant obstructed the duties of a railroad worker, which is a serious offense," and added, "Since the victim has not forgiven him, he must be punished strictly." Regarding the sentencing, the judge noted, "The defendant generally admitted to the crime and promised not to commit any further offenses," and "considered that he has not been criminally punished since 2012."
