Attempted Extreme Act with Two Elementary School Children and an Acquaintance
Refused by 33 Hospitals Due to Staff Shortages
Transferred to Four Cities After Up to 3 Hours and 40 Minutes
All Regained Consciousness... No Life-Threatening Conditions
Police Likely to Apply Charges of Attempted Murder and Attempted Murder of a Direct Ascendant
In Boeun, Chungbuk, a woman in her 40s attempted an extreme act along with her two elementary school-aged children and an acquaintance. Found unconscious, they were refused transfer by 33 hospitals citing staff shortages, and some were moved to hospitals in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, and Incheon after about three hours.
According to the police on the 17th, a report was received at 5:16 p.m. the previous day stating that "Ms. A (in her 50s) was attempting an extreme act." The police tracked Ms. A's mobile phone location and urgently dispatched officers at 5:28 p.m. to an open field in Naebuk-myeon, Boeun-gun.
The police found signs of an attempted extreme act inside a car in the open field, along with unconscious Ms. A, Mr. B (in his 40s), and Mr. B's two elementary school-aged children. The fire ambulance arrived at 5:31 p.m. and inquired about hospitals that could accept the four unconscious individuals, but all 33 hospitals refused due to staff shortages and other reasons.
Ms. A was transferred to a hospital in Cheongju after 1 hour and 4 minutes. The other three family members were transferred to hospitals in Hongseong, Chungnam, Incheon, and Bucheon, Gyeonggi, located approximately 135 km to 186 km away, after about 3 hours and 20 minutes to 40 minutes. All of them regained consciousness during the transfer process and are currently in stable condition without life-threatening issues.
The police are investigating based on the informant's statement that Ms. A expressed intent to take extreme measures due to debt problems. It has been confirmed that all of them came to Boeun from Cheongju using one vehicle, but the relationship between Ms. A and Mr. B has not yet been identified. The police plan to determine the exact circumstances once their conditions improve and are considering applying charges of attempted murder and attempted murder of a direct ascendant against Ms. A and Mr. B, respectively.
