Changwon District Prosecutors' Office: "Myeong Taegyun Case Continues at Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office" ... Kim Youngseon and Kang Hyekyung Additional Indictments

The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office in Gyeongnam has decided to transfer the case involving President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife, as well as Myung Tae-gyun and others, regarding allegations of interference in candidate selection, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.


On the 17th, Changwon Prosecutors' Office announced the interim investigation results through a press release and stated this decision.


The prosecution explained, "Considering that most of the persons involved in the case reside outside Changwon, such as in Seoul, and that the acts mainly took place in Seoul, the case will be transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. However, the current investigation team will move and continue the investigation."


The cases under investigation by the Changwon Prosecutors' Office include ▲ allegations of candidate selection interference involving President Yoon and his wife ▲ allegations of manipulation of public opinion poll results by Myung and others during the party primary process ▲ allegations of free provision of public opinion poll results ▲ allegations of payment of public opinion poll costs by proxy, among others.

The prosecution also additionally indicted former National Assembly member Kim Young-sun, one of the key figures in the allegations and already charged with violations of the Political Funds Act, along with his two brothers, on charges including official secrets leakage and violation of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act.


According to the prosecution, former Assemblyman Kim is accused of leaking in advance information about the site selection for the Changwon 2nd National Industrial Complex, which he learned during his duties as a member of the National Assembly in January 2023, enabling his brothers to purchase land near the site for approximately 340 million won.


He was also indicted on charges of exchanging illegal political funds amounting to about 40 million won under the name of legal advisory fees with a local businessman A, who was suspected of requesting a favor for his son's employment at the Yongsan Presidential Office.


The prosecution also sent Kang Hye-kyung, who was the accounting manager for former Assemblyman Kim, to trial as an accomplice in the illegal political fund receipt charges involving Kim and Myung.


Additionally, Kim was indicted on charges including submitting false policy reports to the National Assembly Secretariat to receive policy development funds.
