Yoon Sang-deok, Head of Archaeology and History Department at the National Museum of Korea, Appointed as New Director of National Gyeongju Museum

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 17th that Yoon Sang-deok (52), Head of the Archaeology and History Department (Curator) at the National Museum of Korea, has been appointed as the new Director of the National Gyeongju Museum.

Born in 1973, Director Yoon is from Seoul and graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Archaeology and Art History. He earned a master's degree from the same university's graduate school and completed doctoral coursework.

He has conducted various studies focusing on Silla archaeology, including Silla pottery and tombs. His research includes an analysis of the chronology of 6th to 7th-century Silla pottery (2010) and numerous academic papers on topics such as Tomb No. 14 on Gyerim-ro, where the treasure "Gyeongju Gyerim-ro Sword" was excavated.

He has held key positions such as Exhibition Director and Head of the Archaeology and History Department at the National Museum of Korea, and was responsible for several exhibitions including the special exhibition "The Land of Gold, Silla" held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States in 2013.

The exhibition "600 Years of the Habsburgs, Masterpieces of Fascination," which he oversaw in 2022, attracted over 328,000 visitors. Recently, he has been in charge of the opening of the Oegyujanggak Uigwe Room and the reorganization of the Prehistoric and Ancient Gallery within the permanent exhibition hall.
