Goal: Restore 13 Million Tourists
Tailored Guidance for Visitors
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jung Kimyung) announced on the 17th that it will assign 78 cultural tourism interpreters year-round to 19 tourist information centers, aiming to restore the number of tourists to 13 million by providing professional interpretation services.
The interpretation program is offered free of charge and can be reserved in advance through the Yeosu Tourism Culture website or applied for on-site at the tourist information centers.
With the reopening of Jinnamgwan, designated as a National Treasure, the opening of the city museum, and the upcoming 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, the city is focusing on improving service quality by enhancing the capabilities of cultural tourism interpreters through field trips to advanced tourist destinations, refresher training, and demonstration sessions. Recently, the city has also replaced or newly established tourist information centers at Baekya Port, Singi Port, and Soho Yacht Marina to provide greater convenience for visitors.
In April, the city will introduce a mobile interpretation service at tourist sites through the "Buskers Running Through Time" program, as well as offer a musical adaptation of a tourism web drama and various busking performances that can be enjoyed by all age groups, presenting content that satisfies all five senses.
Yang Seonnam, president of the Yeosu City Interpreters Association, said, "As cultural tourism interpreters, we take responsibility as the face of Yeosu and do our best to stay informed. We will continue to strengthen our capabilities to ensure that tourists can experience Yeosu from a broader perspective, befitting its status as a key city and beautiful port on the southern coast."
A city official stated, "We will strive to increase tourist satisfaction so that Yeosu will be remembered as a city visitors want to return to, and work towards restoring the number of tourists to 13 million."
