Recruiting 100 Citizens to Participate in Sejong Center Outdoor Opera 'The Magic Flute'

Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced on the 17th that it is recruiting 100 members of a citizen art group to participate in the opera 'Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute)' to be held at Gwanghwamun Square in June, with applications open until the 28th.

Since 2023, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts has set up an outdoor special stage in Gwanghwamun Square to hold outdoor operas in order to revitalize the square, promote citizens' cultural and artistic enjoyment, and expand the opera audience base. Starting with 'Carmen' in 2023, followed by 'Cavalleria Rusticana' last year, this year Mozart's 'Die Zauberflote' will be performed at Gwanghwamun Square on June 1-2.

This year marks the third outdoor opera at Gwanghwamun Square, featuring a stage where professional vocalists and citizens perform together. Over the past two years, more than 200 citizens participated in the two outdoor opera performances, and all groups that applied were selected to join the performance.

Sejong Center for the Performing Arts is recruiting 100 members of a 'citizen art group' to perform alongside professional vocalists in this year's outdoor opera 'Die Zauberflote.' The recruitment field is 'chorus,' and the citizen art group will participate from rehearsals to the main performance and receive a small commemorative gift.

Park Hye-jin, director of the Seoul Opera Company, stated, "Over the past two years, we have confirmed the high artistic ability and passion for opera performances of Seoul citizens, and this year we aim to provide an opportunity for direct participation in the opera to express and enjoy their artistry."

Citizen art groups wishing to participate can apply via email. Chorus applicants must submit an application form along with a performance video. Detailed information is available on the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts website under 'News.'

The Seoul Opera Company's performance of 'Die Zauberflote' is free for all citizens visiting Gwanghwamun Square. This year's production team includes conductor Kim Kwang-hyun and director Jang Jae-ho.

'Die Zauberflote' is a two-act opera composed by Mozart (1756?1791), well known to audiences for the Queen of the Night's aria "Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart").
