Dongkook Pharmaceutical announced on the 17th that it has launched 'Noitek Tablets,' an over-the-counter drug containing ingredients that alleviate tinnitus symptoms and three types of vitamin B complex effective for energy production.
Tinnitus refers to the sensation of hearing sounds despite the absence of external auditory stimuli. It can manifest as various types of sounds such as insect chirping, wind noise, or mechanical sounds. The main causes include muscular tinnitus and vascular tinnitus, which are related to circulatory disorders and psychological factors. Symptoms can worsen due to stress, so management is necessary.
According to a 2023 survey conducted by Dongkook Pharmaceutical through Korea Research on 11,000 adult men and women, more than 89% (2.11 million people) of those who have experienced tinnitus do not actively treat it and leave it untreated. However, neglecting tinnitus can affect overall quality of life, causing dizziness, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, so active measures are required.
Currently, various treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy and auditory therapy are being utilized. However, there is no fundamental cure, and antidepressants and anticonvulsants used in drug treatment are psychotropic drugs with limitations on long-term use. Therefore, over-the-counter drugs such as herbal medicine, ginkgo leaf preparations, and vitamin B complex have been used as adjunct therapies.
The papaverine hydrochloride in Noitek Tablets promotes smooth blood circulation and reduces vascular spasms, while chlorpheniramine maleate and caffeine hydrate enhance blood circulation and improve tinnitus symptoms. Additionally, the three types of vitamin B complex including nicotinamide (B3) promote antioxidant activity and energy production, and aloe (Nohwe) helps relieve dizziness and headaches.
A Dongkook Pharmaceutical official stated, "Noitek Tablets are an over-the-counter drug approved solely for tinnitus and will become a primary choice for tinnitus by replacing the adjunct therapies that have been used so far. Since tinnitus is a symptom directly related to quality of life and requires continuous management, it will be helpful for those who have endured discomfort and neglected symptoms, those who have not seen effects from existing tinnitus treatments, and those who intermittently experience tinnitus due to stress and physical fatigue."
