Additional Subsidies for Youth Buying Their First Car and Multi-Child Families
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that it will provide purchase subsidies for a total of 5,710 eco-friendly vehicles, including electric and hydrogen cars, this year.
Subsidies by vehicle type are ▲4,724 passenger cars ▲620 cargo vehicles ▲10 vans ▲356 hydrogen cars. The total subsidy amount is 49.2 billion KRW. In the first half of the year, the city will provide subsidies for ▲3,314 passenger cars ▲438 cargo vehicles ▲9 vans.
Eligible recipients for the subsidies are individuals and corporations who have continuously resided in Hwaseong City for more than two months as of the application date, and must register the vehicle’s primary usage address in Hwaseong City after the vehicle is delivered. The basic subsidy provided upon vehicle purchase varies by vehicle type: up to 8.61 million KRW for passenger cars, up to 23.61 million KRW for cargo vehicles, and a fixed 35 million KRW for hydrogen cars.
Starting this year, additional subsidies beyond the basic subsidy have been expanded. Youth aged 19 to 34 purchasing an electric passenger car as their first-ever vehicle can receive an additional 20% of the national subsidy amount.
Multi-child families with two or more children under 18 who purchase an electric passenger car will receive additional subsidies based on the number of children. The additional subsidy amounts are 1 million KRW for two children, 2 million KRW for three children, and 3 million KRW for four or more children.
An additional 200,000 KRW national subsidy is also provided when scrapping an old electric car that cannot update the BMS (Battery Management System) safety function and repurchasing an electric passenger car. When purchasing an electric taxi, an additional 2.5 million KRW national subsidy and 1 million KRW city subsidy are provided, and for electric cargo vehicles purchased by farmers or used as delivery vehicles, an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount is granted.
Detailed information on additional subsidies and subsidy amounts by vehicle type can be found on the Hwaseong City Hall website under the announcements and notices section or on the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
Oh Je-hong, Director of the Environment Bureau of Hwaseong City, said, "Through this project, we will spare no effort to support more citizens in using eco-friendly vehicles."
