Wando Coast Guard Rescues Woman in Her 50s Trapped in Mudflat While Collecting Parae Seaweed

The Wando Coast Guard in South Jeolla Province announced on the 17th that they had dramatically rescued a woman in her 50s who became stranded while collecting seaweed in a tidal flat.


At around 6:44 a.m. that day, Ms. A (female, in her 50s) became trapped and unable to move after sinking deep into the mud while collecting seaweed in a tidal flat near Ihoe Jin Port, Jangheung County, South Jeolla Province.

Upon receiving the report, the Wando Coast Guard immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Hoejin Police Substation to the scene. Using a mudflat boat, the rescue team safely rescued Ms. A about 20 minutes after the report was received. Ms. A was found to be in good health and was allowed to return home.


A Wando Coast Guard official stated, "Unexpected isolation accidents often occur in tidal flats," and advised, "It can become even more dangerous as high tide approaches, so always be aware of your surroundings and make sure to use proper safety equipment."
