"Tire and Glass Also Online"... Car Reinspection Made Easier

Korea Transportation Safety Authority Expands Online Re-Inspection Items
Aims to Reduce Public Inconvenience and Save 30 Billion KRW Annually

The Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 17th that it will increase the number of items for online vehicle re-inspection. The goal is to reduce public inconvenience and cut social costs, which amount to 30 billion KRW annually.

Introduced for the first time in the world in November 2023, the online re-inspection system allows vehicle owners to register photos online and receive a simple re-inspection without visiting the inspection center.

In addition to the previously handled online items such as license plates, seals, and lighting devices (excluding headlights), from this year, the online re-inspection will also cover ▲tire damage and wear ▲severe damage such as glass detachment or holes ▲absence or defects of rear reflectors.

Vehicle owners can receive re-inspection by accessing the Authority’s cyber inspection center and attaching photos of their vehicles. The Authority analyzed that expanding the scope could save about 30 billion KRW in social costs annually.

In line with the government’s digital platform policy and the revision trends of the Enforcement Rules of the Automobile Management Act, the Authority has steadily increased the items eligible for online re-inspection. Thanks to this, vehicle owners can complete re-inspection without visiting the inspection center, significantly reducing public inconvenience.

Jung Yong-sik, the Director of the Authority, stated, "We will create an environment where the public can drive vehicles safely," and added, "We will continue to prepare measures to reduce public inconvenience."
