Jo Incheol: "Car Acquisition Tax Reduction for Families with Multiple Children to Be Extended from 18 to 24 Years Old"

Jo Incheol Proposes Amendment to the Restriction of Special Local Taxation Act

Jo Incheol: "Car Acquisition Tax Reduction for Families with Multiple Children to Be Extended from 18 to 24 Years Old" Jo Incheol, Member of the National Assembly.

Jo Incheol, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seogu-gap), announced on the 17th that he has proposed a revision to the "Restriction of Special Local Taxation Act," which would expand the eligibility for automobile acquisition tax reduction for families with multiple children from "under 18 years old" to "under 24 years old."

According to the current law, households with two or more children can receive a reduction in the acquisition tax when purchasing a car. Recently, prolonged economic recession and ongoing difficulties in the job market have delayed economic independence among young people. However, the age limit for this tax benefit remains restricted to those under 18, which critics argue does not reflect current economic realities. In particular, as the government has expanded the age criteria for youth policies to 24, the tax reduction standard should also be adjusted accordingly.

If the amendment is implemented, it is expected that the financial burden on families with multiple children will decrease, allowing more households to benefit in practical terms. Additionally, the reduction in acquisition tax is anticipated to lead to an increase in car purchases, which would have a positive impact on the domestic economy and the automobile industry.

Jo stated, "This amendment is a practical support measure that reduces household burdens and expands the capacity for consumption," adding, "We have adjusted the age criteria to reflect the reality that economic independence among young people is being delayed. Beyond simple tax benefits, we will strongly promote wage protection policies that people can truly feel."
