To address trade issues such as U.S. tariff measures, Park Jong-won, Deputy Minister for Trade of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is scheduled to visit the United States to meet with key officials from the U.S. administration, Congress, and stakeholders.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Deputy Minister Park will depart for Washington D.C. on the 17th and plans to discuss bilateral trade issues, including reciprocal tariffs (under review until April 1) and the 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum (scheduled to be imposed on March 12), as well as ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and the U.S. through meetings with U.S. officials.
Through meetings with key U.S. government and congressional officials, Deputy Minister Park intends to identify the main concerns of the U.S. side regarding the imposition of reciprocal tariffs and actively convey Korea’s position on the steel and aluminum tariff measures. He will also request the establishment of a stable and consistent policy environment that enables Korean companies to smoothly carry out investment projects in the U.S.
In addition, Deputy Minister Park will meet with major think tanks and stakeholders to closely monitor trends in U.S. government policies and explore possible avenues for cooperation.
Deputy Minister Park stated, "In a situation where policy uncertainty is increasing due to the U.S. government’s successive announcements of trade and commercial measures, we will make every effort to protect the interests of our companies."
