The opening ceremony for the Nongseong Station Citizen Communication Space, established as part of the 'Fun City Gwangju' initiative, was held at 2 p.m. that day at Gwangju Nongseong Station.
More than 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, Gwangju Shinsegae CEO Lee Donghun, Seo-gu District Chief Kim Ikang, Gwangju Transportation Corporation President Cho Ikmun, and Gwangju City Councilor Kang Suhun.
The creation of the Nongseong Station Citizen Communication Space is a project carried out through a business agreement among Gwangju Shinsegae, Gwangju City, and Gwangju Transportation Corporation to provide citizens with a space for culture and relaxation.
According to the agreement, Gwangju Shinsegae was responsible for the remodeling design and construction costs of the citizen communication space. Utilizing its expertise as a department store operator, Gwangju Shinsegae presented a sophisticated and clean model for the subway station. In particular, a large LED monitor was installed on the performance stage, allowing users to easily access Gwangju City’s latest issues and daily information.
Gwangju City plans to actively enhance citizens’ access to information and daily convenience by quickly delivering key policy issues through engaging content. Through these efforts, Nongseong Station, adjacent to the Gwangcheon area, is expected to become a beloved space for both Gwangju citizens and visitors from outside the city.
Lee Donghun, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, "We have participated in the creation of the citizen communication space at Nongseong Station, where an increase in users is expected in the future," adding, "We hope that this communication space, created with Gwangju Shinsegae’s expertise, will become a beloved place for citizens."
Cho Ikmun, President of Gwangju Transportation Corporation, said, "We expect that the Nongseong Station Citizen Communication Space will contribute to realizing the Fun City concept and transforming Gwangju into a city of public notices," and added, "We will continue to work so that the local community can join forces for the benefit of citizens."
