Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 17th that the "Paju Jangdan Bean Festival," hosted by the city, has been selected as a 2025 Gyeonggi Representative Tourism Festival, securing 200 million KRW in provincial funding. Since its first participation in 2019, the "Paju Jangdan Bean Festival" has been recognized as a representative festival of Gyeonggi Province for seven consecutive years, demonstrating its strength as Paju City's flagship agricultural product festival.
The "Gyeonggi Representative Tourism Festival," organized by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, reviews regional festivals in Gyeonggi Province to select and support outstanding festivals. This year, 19 festivals were selected based on evaluations in festival planning and content, festival operation, development capacity, and safety management.
Paju City attended the evaluation for the Gyeonggi Representative Tourism Festival held at the Suwon Convention Center on the 6th, presenting the excellence and development potential of the Paju Jangdan Bean Festival. It was selected as one of the top 10 festivals, securing 200 million KRW in provincial funding.
The Paju Jangdan Bean Festival, themed around Jangdan beans?the first promoted bean variety in Korea?has been held since 1997. It has established itself as Korea's representative agricultural product festival by not only helping participating farmers secure sales channels and increase income but also providing visitors with enjoyment through diverse content.
At last year's Paju Jangdan Bean Festival, held over three days from November 22 to 24 at Imjingak Plaza, sales reached 2.6 billion KRW through agricultural and specialty products including Paju Jangdan beans.
The 29th Paju Jangdan Bean Festival, to be held this year from November 21 to 23 at Paju Imjingak Plaza, will be an eco-friendly festival with zero single-use products, a safe festival with zero accidents, a comfortable festival encouraging repeat visits through improved convenience facilities, and a community-participation festival involving local residents such as women's associations.
