On the 15th (local time), foreign media including ABC News reported that Trump’s mugshot was captured in a photo covering the summit between President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 13th. The photo showed the front page of the New York Post featuring the mugshot framed and hung on the wall facing the entrance to the White House office. This corridor connects the White House office to the Cabinet Room, making the frame visible to visitors, including foreign leaders. The foreign media also reported that the mugshot had been hanging there since Trump’s first meeting with a foreign leader on the 4th. Additionally, the photo was noted to place Trump in the same frame as former presidents such as John Adams and Franklin Roosevelt.

The mugshot was taken at Fulton County Jail in Georgia when President Trump voluntarily appeared before prosecutors after being indicted in 2023 on charges related to his refusal to accept defeat in the 2020 presidential election. At the time, Trump called the investigation and indictment “political retaliation” and promoted the mugshot as a “symbol of resistance.” The following year, during the election campaign, he created and sold merchandise featuring the mugshot and proudly stated during rallies, “This photo (the mugshot) has beaten Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra to become the best-selling mugshot in history.”

Earlier this year, the official presidential portrait released ahead of his inauguration was also taken in a way that overall evoked the mugshot, including his expression and posture. The tie color changed from red to a shade of blue, and the suit color shifted from dark navy to a lighter blue, but the pose?head slightly bowed with eyes wide open staring straight ahead?remained the same. This was in stark contrast to previous presidents, who all used official photos with bright smiles, sparking some controversy.
