When delivering the donation, Bae Yong-joon stated, "Despite the difficult situation in the medical field, I decided to donate with the hope that the medical center will continue to develop and grow into an institution leading future medicine." He added, "I hope this donation will serve as a foundation for the medical center’s future and contribute to creating a healthy world for everyone, including low-income youth and infants."
Yonsei Medical Center plans to use the donation for the development of the medical center and treatment costs for low-income youth and infants. Yonsei Medical Center oversees Severance Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital, and Yongin Severance Hospital.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Bae Yong-joon and his wife Park Soo-jin donated funds to a private school in Hawaii.
The donor list for 2023?2024 published by Iolani School, a private school in Honolulu, Hawaii, included the couple’s names as donors contributing between $10,000 (14.4 million KRW) and $24,999 (36 million KRW). Iolani School is a private school with 2,200 students, known for its very high admission rate to prestigious American universities within Hawaii. The school consists of grades from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school publishes the donor list annually to express gratitude to its donors.
Bae Yong-joon and Park Soo-jin married in 2015 and have a son and a daughter. The couple has been reported to reside in Hawaii since 2022 for their children’s education. Bae Yong-joon stopped acting after a special appearance in the 2011 drama 'Dream High 2' and sold his shares in KeyEast, the company he founded, to SM Entertainment in 2018. Park Soo-jin has had no significant activities since appearing on the variety show 'Oksu-dong Sujeja' in 2016. It was also reported late last year that she terminated her contract with KeyEast several years ago. Due to this, rumors about the couple’s retirement from the entertainment industry continue to circulate.
