Case Detected of Loan Fraud Using Colleagues' ID Cards at the Workplace
# Mr. A was known as the 'investment genius' at his workplace. After receiving investments from his colleagues and returning high profits, everyone trusted him. One day, Mr. A asked his colleagues for their ID cards, power of attorney, and seal certificates, claiming he needed them for bidding on real estate auctions. He used these documents to open mobile phone accounts under his colleagues' names and then created false lease contracts. Mr. A visited banks and fraudulently obtained jeonse loans and credit loans under his colleagues' names, embezzling the loan funds.
The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) warned that identity theft loan fraud is becoming more sophisticated and urged people never to comply if asked for ID cards, power of attorney, or similar documents.
On the 16th, the FSS announced that it has shared recent loan fraud cases with banks and plans to establish internal control improvement measures to prevent recurrence of identity theft loan fraud.
To prevent identity theft loan fraud, the FSS explained that one should refuse if asked for ID cards, power of attorney, etc., under the pretext of investment solicitation. This is because mobile phones can be opened without the person's knowledge and public institution documents can be issued, which may be used for financial fraud.
Additionally, if you suspect financial transactions you are unaware of, you can check through the 'My Account at a Glance' service. By using 'My Account at a Glance' and 'Financial Information Inquiry' in the integrated account information management service, you can find out if you have been a victim of identity theft.
If you have provided copies of your ID card to others or are concerned about personal information exposure, you can register as a 'Personal Information Exposed Person' to prevent issues in advance. Also, to check for mobile phones or internet phones opened without your knowledge, you can use the 'Identity Theft Prevention Service.'
