Morning at Seoul Central District Court, Afternoon at Constitutional Court
The office of President Yoon Seok-yeol has requested a change of date, stating that it is difficult to attend the 10th impeachment trial hearing scheduled by the Constitutional Court for 2 p.m. on the 20th.
It is reported that President Yoon's side submitted the request for a date change immediately after the Constitutional Court set the hearing date on the 14th.
President Yoon's office explained, "Because it overlaps with the criminal trial schedule, including a detention cancellation hearing in the morning of the same day."
If the hearing proceeds as scheduled, President Yoon's legal team will attend the first preparatory hearing for the charge of leading a rebellion at 10 a.m. on the 20th at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and then move to the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul by 2 p.m. to participate in the impeachment trial.
The Seoul Central District Court is also scheduled to conduct a hearing on President Yoon's detention cancellation request in line with the first preparatory hearing.
Many of President Yoon's criminal trial lawyers and Constitutional Court representatives overlap.
Although the defendant is not obligated to attend the preparatory hearing of the criminal trial, it is known that President Yoon may attend the detention cancellation hearing in person to argue for the necessity of a non-detention trial.
The Constitutional Court has accepted three of the six additional witnesses requested by President Yoon: Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, former 1st Deputy Director of the National Intelligence Service Hong Jang-won, and Police Commissioner Cho Ji-ho, and plans to question them starting at 2 p.m. on the 20th.
