It was belatedly revealed that the Vice Chairperson of the Gwangju Nam-gu Council received a verbal warning for using an official vehicle for personal purposes.
According to the Gwangju Nam-gu Council on the 14th, Park Yonghwa, the Vice Chairperson of the Nam-gu Council, received a verbal warning from Chairperson Nam Hohyun last September for using the council's official vehicle, which is intended to support the public legislative activities of council members, for personal schedules.
From July 2022 until the warning in September last year, Park used the official vehicle alone on 71 occasions over two years.
Specifically, there were 3 instances in 2022, 11 in 2023, and after being elected Vice Chairperson in the second half of last year, he used it 57 times.
During the same period, the total number of official vehicle uses by all Nam-gu Council members was 133, meaning Park alone accounted for about half of the total usage.
Although the Nam-gu Council's official vehicle cannot be used for personal purposes under the regulations for managing government vehicles, it is known that Park used the vehicle almost exclusively during non-session periods, prompting concerns from fellow council members.
Chairperson Nam confirmed the facts based on the official vehicle operation log and verbally warned Park, saying, "Do not use the official vehicle for personal purposes unless it is for public legislative activities."
Regarding this matter, Park stated, "I used the official vehicle within the scope of legislative activities. There was no personal purpose," and added, "Since receiving the warning last year, I have not used the official vehicle."
