Temporary Bridge Installation Completed on Sunaegyo Bridge toward Bundang
Four-Lane Temporary Road Now Open
Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) completed the installation of a temporary bridge on the Bundang-bound side of Sunaegyo Bridge on the 14th and opened a four-lane temporary road. This measure aims to proceed with the full reconstruction of Sunaegyo Bridge while maintaining eight lanes in both directions, minimizing inconvenience to citizens.

At the site inspection of Sunaegyo Bridge held on the same day, Mayor Shin Sang-jin stated, “With the completion of the temporary bridge installation, traffic detours via the temporary road are now possible, allowing us to proceed with the full reconstruction work in earnest. Although some inconvenience such as the use of temporary pedestrian paths is expected during the construction, we will do our best to complete the work swiftly by the end of next year so that citizens can use a safe bridge.”

Sunaegyo Bridge was fully closed from August 14, 2023, after receiving an E-grade rating in an emergency detailed safety inspection conducted in 2023. Subsequently, to alleviate traffic congestion and citizen inconvenience, temporary reinforcement work was carried out under the bridge on January 18, 2024, allowing traffic to resume.
Seongnam City is promoting phased full reconstruction work while maintaining eight lanes of traffic to prevent traffic congestion caused by the full closure. In the first phase, a temporary bridge was installed on the Bundang-bound side, and a temporary road for traffic detours was opened. In the second phase, the existing four-lane bridge on the Bundang-bound side will be demolished and reconstructed by December this year, after which it will be temporarily operated as a road toward Seoul. In the final third phase, the existing four-lane bridge on the Seoul-bound side will be demolished and reconstructed, with the construction scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.
To ensure smooth traffic transitions, Seongnam City coordinated with the Bundang Police Station and the Road Traffic Authority to install safety facilities such as protective barriers and fences, improve the signal system, repaint lanes, and relocate streetlights.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin emphasized, “We plan to promptly address any risk factors through continuous monitoring even after the traffic transition. We will continue thorough inspections and management of facilities to create a safe city of Seongnam where citizens can live with peace of mind.”
