Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 14th that it held a completion report meeting for the Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Support Project, which was the only project in the Chungcheong region to be selected last year, at the mayor's office in City Hall on the 13th.
The Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Support Project was promoted to solve logistics difficulties in the Garorimman island area and the Dae San Port anchorage, which are vulnerable areas for daily logistics, by utilizing drones.
The city has been carrying out the project since March last year, investing a total project cost of 1 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW in national funds secured through the public contest selection.
The project includes ▲establishment of a cold chain logistics center (warehouse) ▲construction of a drone logistics port ▲development of a drone delivery app and drone logistics control system ▲drone delivery to island areas, Dae San Port anchorage, and Samgilpo Port floating fishing sites.
At the completion report meeting, about 10 people, including Seosan Mayor Lee Wan-seop, officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Transport Institute, and project implementers, attended to share key achievements of the project.
The participants agreed to extend the project period until February this year to continue providing the 'commercial drone logistics delivery service connecting islands, ports, and cities.'
The city plans to focus its administrative efforts on securing additional project selections and preparing new policies to provide continuous drone logistics delivery services from March this year.
Mayor Lee Wan-seop of Seosan said, "By establishing logistics infrastructure using drones in vulnerable areas such as the islands of Garorimman and ships at the Dae San Port anchorage, Seosan has become a leading city in applying future technology," and added, "We will continue to do our best to develop various policies to improve citizen convenience."
Meanwhile, on February 14 last year, Seosan City was the only one in the Chungcheong region to be selected for the '2024 Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Support Project' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transport Institute, securing 500 million KRW in national funding.
