17 Stores Damaged

At 1:02 a.m. on the 14th, a fire broke out at Songjeong 5 Market in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
Firefighters arrived at the scene six minutes after the report was made through the automatic fire alarm system installed in the market. Upon confirming that several stores were on fire, they issued Response Level 1, mobilizing all personnel from the local fire station.
The fire department deployed 31 firefighting vehicles and 86 personnel, and managed to completely extinguish the fire by around 1:50 a.m., 50 minutes after the initial report.
There were no casualties, but 38 out of 240 stalls (17 stores) were burned or scorched, resulting in estimated property damage of about 400 million won according to the fire department.
Of the 38 affected stalls, 27 were confirmed to be operating businesses.
The fire authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
