Imported Soybean Packaging Changed to 'Orange'... aT "To Prevent Origin Mislabeling"

The packaging color of imported soybeans will be changed to orange to make it easier to distinguish between imported and domestically produced soybeans.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on the 14th that the government will newly produce packaging for imported soybeans to prevent illegal distribution after import.

An aT official explained, "We plan to change the packaging color of imported soybeans to orange to prevent origin forgery," adding, "Previously, both imported and domestic soybean packaging were in yellow tones, which could cause confusion, so this has been improved."

aT has been managing import volumes to ensure a stable supply of soybeans, which are insufficient in domestic production, while minimizing the impact on the domestic soybean market. Additionally, to prevent market disruption and damage to domestic farmers caused by illegal distribution such as origin forgery of low-priced imported soybeans supplied domestically, post-management measures such as operating the Agricultural Products Distribution Management Team and changing packaging are also being implemented.

Moon In-cheol, aT's Supply Director, said, "If imported soybeans are sold disguised as domestic soybeans, the damage ultimately falls directly on domestic soybean producers and consumers," and added, "aT will thoroughly conduct origin inspections at all sites in the related industry to ensure honest origin labeling and establish a proper distribution culture."
