Plan to Collect 1.8 Billion KRW, 40% of 4.5 Billion KRW in Carried-Over Tax Arrears
Hongseong County, Chungnam Province, announced that it has designated the period until the end of June as the "2025 First Half Local Tax Delinquency Intensive Collection Period" and will make every effort to collect local tax arrears carried over from last year.
This year, the amount of local tax arrears carried over has increased by 8.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 4.5 billion KRW, and the county plans to collect 40% of this amount, or 1.8 billion KRW, during this period.
Last year, the county set its collection target for carried-over arrears at 1.6 billion KRW and exceeded this goal through active collection measures such as public auctions and the seizure of vehicle license plates, earning an Excellence Award in the 2024 Local Tax Delinquency Collection Evaluation conducted by Chungnam Province.
For 2025, the county will continue its efforts to collect large and chronic arrears by operating a dedicated management team for delinquents with arrears of over 10 million KRW and carrying out public auctions of seized assets, aiming to achieve the target amount of carried-over arrears through strong administrative measures.
In particular, to collect automobile taxes, which account for a high proportion of arrears, the county will operate a license plate seizure team for delinquent vehicles every Thursday, and for small-scale delinquents, promote convenient payment methods and encourage voluntary payments through the Taxpayer Support Call Center.
Additionally, for livelihood-based delinquents who are willing to pay, the county plans to support their economic activities by allowing installment payments, deferring collection, or postponing license plate seizures.
A county official stated, "We will promote tailored collection activities according to the type of delinquency to foster a sound tax payment culture and realize fair taxation, thereby working to expand local tax revenue."
