Evaluation of Over 20 Items in Three Categories... Results to Be Announced at Year-End

Hyundai Ioniq 9, Hyundai Palisade, and Kia Tasman will undergo this year's Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) evaluation.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 14th that these results came from the "2025 Public Vote for Selecting Test Vehicles for the New Car Safety Evaluation," which involved 7,576 participants from the public between the 16th and 25th of last month.

The New Car Safety Evaluation is a system that comprehensively assesses various aspects such as crash safety and accident prevention performance of new vehicles annually and discloses the results. Its purpose is to encourage manufacturers to develop safety technologies and provide objective information to consumers.

For this year's evaluation, the Authority proposed five candidates each in three vehicle categories: electric vehicles, hybrids, and internal combustion engine vehicles.

In the electric vehicle category, the Ioniq 9 recorded the highest vote share at 34.7%. It was followed by the Kia EV4 (27.9%) and Volvo EX30 (14.6%).

In the hybrid category, the Palisade ranked first with 36.3%, followed by the Volvo V60 (21.4%) and Lexus NX350h (19.4%).

In the internal combustion engine category, the Tasman received the most votes at 26.6%, followed by the BMW 228 (20.4%) and Ford Explorer (18.2%).

The Automobile Safety Research Institute under the Authority will conduct evaluations on about 20 items across three areas?collision, external pedestrian, and accident prevention safety?for the three selected models including the Ioniq 9 and other newly selected models.
