Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) has introduced 'Augmented Reality (AR) Smart Glasses' to enhance safety and quality management at the construction site of the Gwangju Station Area Youth Innovation Town in Yeokdong, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do.
As part of the advancement of the smart safety management system last year, GH reviewed the introduction of AR smart glasses and verified their effectiveness through emergency drills prepared for major disaster situations.
The AR smart glasses transmit visual and audio information collected at the construction site to safety managers in the office via wireless video calls, enabling quick decision-making such as improvement measures for pointed-out issues.
Also, by capturing and sending footage of areas needing improvement via remote control or voice commands, the office can immediately write down necessary actions, capture them, and send them back in real time through the smart glasses, enhancing communication between the site and remote locations, improving work efficiency, and preventing safety accidents.
The Gwangju Station Area Youth Innovation Town, which began construction in November 2023, is a project with a total budget of 230.8 billion KRW to build 316 public rental housing units and 377 knowledge industry center units. It is scheduled for completion in August 2026.
Kim Se-yong, President of GH, stated, "We expect that the introduction of AR smart glasses will dramatically improve safety and quality management at construction sites," adding, "GH will actively consider introducing smart glasses to other construction sites following the Gwangju Station Area."
