Jungnang-gu '2025 Together ESG' Initiative 추진

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is proactively identifying and implementing ESG practice tasks within the public sector to spread sustainable ESG values throughout Jungnang-gu.

‘ESG (Environment, Social, Governance)’ refers to environment, society, and governance. It emphasizes eco-friendly policies and social responsibility for sustainable development.

It also serves as a factor that helps achieve harmony and balance between current and future generations, fostering long-term value creation and social trust.

Recently, as the importance of integrating ESG in the public sector has been emphasized, the district enacted and implemented the ‘Jungnang-gu Basic Ordinance on Sustainable Development’ in May 2023, and established the ‘2045 Basic Strategy and Promotion Plan for Sustainable Development’ in July last year.

Following this, a sustainable development vision declaration ceremony was held with over 500 participants from various sectors including public and private, sharing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotion plans, and actively promoting ESG practices.

Last year, all departments of Jungnang-gu Office and local community centers pursued a total of 11 ESG tasks such as ▲reducing single-use products in government buildings ▲participating in building light-off events ▲creating eco-friendly meetings ▲emptying email inboxes ▲operating local win-win days, achieving 2,518 instances of practice.

As a result of these efforts, the district received the Grand Prize in the Local Government ESG category at the ‘2024 Korea ESG Awards’ hosted by the Korea ESG Society.

This year, moving beyond the existing environment (E)-centered practice tasks, a total of 15 tasks across the three areas of Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) have been selected to expand implementation.

Key initiatives include ▲prioritized purchase of environmentally and socially friendly products ▲promotion of traditional market revitalization ▲strengthening personal information protection ▲improving institutional integrity ▲activating proactive administration ▲ESG self-diagnosis ▲and an idea contest for ESG practices.

In particular, to strengthen social responsibility as an administrative institution, new volunteer activities linked with ‘Jungnang Donghaeng Sarangnet’ will be launched. Public officials will directly participate in volunteer work to contribute to the local community, and the on-site experience gained will be reflected in policies through the ‘Jungnang-type ESG Day,’ which will operate from March.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “ESG practices for harmonious coexistence of people and nature, now and in the future, start with small interest,” adding, “The administrative institution will set an example by promoting various policies and campaigns to create a ‘sustainable Jungnang’ where no one is left behind.”

Completion of Remodeling of Jungnang-gu Veterans Hall

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) held a completion ceremony on the 13th after finishing the remodeling of the Veterans Hall located in Myeonmok 3 and 8-dong.

The Veterans Hall has been used as a communication and rest space for veterans’ families for 15 years since its completion in 2009. However, due to aging facilities, the need for repair and renovation to improve safety and user convenience has been continuously raised, and the district has been carrying out facility refurbishment for about a year since last year.

The newly remodeled Veterans Hall is equipped with facilities such as ▲reorganized offices for veterans’ organizations ▲a large auditorium ▲a bathhouse ▲a fitness room ▲and a reception area. In particular, the first-floor lobby and outdoor community rest area have been newly created to open the space for use not only by veterans’ families but also by local residents.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Since the Veterans Hall is a space for those who have devoted themselves to the country and their families, providing a more comfortable and safe environment is of utmost importance,” adding, “I hope this remodeling will transform it into an open space that can be used by both veterans’ families and local residents.”

Guro-gu Advances Village Bus Financial Support to Semiannual Prepayment

Improvement of Financial Support Payment Method from ‘Prior Notification & Post Payment’ to ‘Prepayment & Post Settlement’

Additional Support for Increased Financial Support Standard Amount

Guro-gu is changing the village bus financial support payment method from ‘prior notification and post payment’ to ‘prepayment and post settlement’ starting this year to ease the financial burden on village bus operators.

According to the district, as of February 2025, 15 routes and 85 village buses are operating in Guro-gu.

Among the village bus operators running these routes, Seoul City supports 85% of the deficit within a limit of 230,000 KRW per vehicle for operators whose transportation revenue does not meet the financial support standard amount, and Guro-gu shares the remaining 7.5% additional support with the city since August 2023.

However, since the financial support amount must be calculated monthly based on the actual performance of the month, it usually takes 1 to 2 months, limiting direct improvement of the financial conditions of deficit operators.

Therefore, starting this year, the district decided to improve the payment method by dividing the monthly financial support into the first and second half of the year, paying in advance twice a year and settling later.

The estimated financial support for the first half of the year based on the previous year’s operation performance will be paid first in January, and the actual first half financial support will be confirmed and settled in July when the second half payment is made.

This improvement in the payment method is expected to significantly advance the timing of financial support payments, greatly helping transportation companies operating deficit routes.

Additionally, the district will provide an additional payment in February for five months of retroactive support for 2024, reflecting the increase in the financial support standard amount from 457,040 KRW to 486,098 KRW in May last year.

A Guro-gu official said, “We hope this improvement in payment method and additional support for the increased amount will help improve the management conditions of transportation companies in the district,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that village buses, the lifeline of residents, operate stably and that the public can use public transportation without inconvenience.”
