Namyangju-si and Giwon Whiskey Distillery Sign Agreement for Regional Revitalization and Mutual Development

Promoting the Development of Sustainable Regional Revitalization Content
by Combining Local Resources and the Whiskey Industry

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 13th that it has signed a 'Sustainable Regional Revitalization and Mutual Growth Agreement' with Giwon Whiskey Distillery Co., Ltd., the first single malt whiskey distillery in Korea.

This agreement was promoted with the goal of creating sustainable public value through mutual growth between the region and the company and developing regional revitalization content through collaboration.


The main contents of the agreement include △development of collaborative products utilizing local resources △development of promotional, cultural, and tourism content to revitalize the local economy △creation of sustainable public value for mutual growth between the company and the region.


The signing ceremony was held at Giwon Whiskey Distillery Co., Ltd. located in Hwado-eup, Namyangju City, attended by Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju, Do Jeong-han, CEO of Giwon Whiskey Distillery, as well as related public officials and company executives.


In particular, along with the signing of the agreement, time was spent sharing the background and plans for the project, and a ceremony was held to sign together on an oak barrel made to commemorate the agreement.


Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “With today’s agreement as an opportunity, I hope that various regional revitalization contents will be created by combining the excellent resources of Namyangju and the capabilities of companies with outstanding potential. Just as whiskey completes its taste and aroma through long aging, we will promote continuous and multifaceted collaboration for regional development and corporate growth to achieve mutual growth between Namyangju City and Giwon Whiskey Distillery.”


CEO Do Jeong-han said, “Namyangju is an area with optimal conditions for aging whiskey. Based on the inspiration Namyangju has given us, we will widely promote Namyangju through whiskey and pursue various collaborations leading new cultures to create achievements that contribute to the development of the local community.”


Through this agreement, Namyangju City plans to promote multifaceted collaboration to prepare various contents that citizens and tourists can enjoy together, such as △planning limited edition products linked to the city and corporate brands △developing tourism content linked to distillery tours △developing cultural content linked to local festivals.
