Dongmyeong University Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Rehabilitation, Strong Practicum Ensures 'No Employment Worries'

The Department of Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology Rehabilitation at Dongmyung University boasts the highest employment rate nationwide, based on a solid on-campus practicum supervision system led by six full-time professors.

According to last year's university information disclosure on employment rates, the department's employment rate was 84.4%, surpassing both the average employment rate of college graduates and that of the health-related fields.

The Department of Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology Rehabilitation at Dongmyung University (Department Head Professor Oh Sojeong) established the Dongmyung Speech Clinical Center (Center Director Professor Kim Jooyoung) on campus in 2012 to systematically conduct speech rehabilitation practicum for individuals with communication disorders. To ensure quality practicum guidance, all full-time professors on campus supervise the practicum.

The practicum is conducted under the supervision of practicum professors who hold Level 1 Speech Rehabilitation Therapist certification and have over 10 years of clinical experience, using a meticulous apprenticeship-style teaching method. Students develop practical skills by diagnosing, evaluating, and treating various cases of individuals with communication disorders over the course of one year.

In June 2024, the Korean Speech Rehabilitation Therapist Association selected the Dongmyung Speech Clinical Center as an excellent clinical practicum institution and awarded it a certification plaque. Students and alumni of this department achieved top national ranks in the 2023 Hearing Specialist exam, second place in the Level 2 Speech Rehabilitation Therapist national exam, and first place nationwide in the 2024 Level 1 Speech Rehabilitation Therapist national exam.

Center Director Kim Jooyoung stated, “We operate the center with pride as a practicum institution for our students and as a provider of high-quality diagnostic evaluation and intervention services to residents with communication disorders. We will strive to produce speech rehabilitation therapists equipped with both character and expertise.”
