Job Creation and Other Expectations
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 13th that it signed a business agreement on the 31st of last month with Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, to utilize the purchased land in the aircraft noise areas near the airport.
The two organizations will cooperate to more actively utilize the land within the noise areas purchased by the corporation. The main contents of the agreement include ▲discovering cooperative regional economic projects ▲developing and implementing mid- to long-term utilization plans for purchased land and housing in noise countermeasure areas ▲collaboration for airport revitalization.
Regarding the noise area land and buildings provided free of charge by the corporation, Yangcheon-gu will prepare and implement comprehensive utilization plans for local residents. Since April last year, they have been discussing utilization plans that meet the needs of local residents. First, in the first half of this year, a Creative Craft Center (127.5㎡) for exhibitions and joint work will be established in Sinwol 3-dong. It is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by creating jobs linked to the nearby specialized (workshop) street.
Since 2018, the corporation has been purchasing land and buildings in areas where aircraft noise exceeds 70 Lden and surpasses the permissible limit, based on the "Act on Prevention of Airport Noise and Support for Noise Countermeasure Areas," after appraisal upon the owner's request.
Lee Jeong-gi, Acting President of the corporation, said, "Through public-private cooperative projects utilizing the corporation's resources, we will actively support residents in noise areas and revitalize the local economy," adding, "We will continue to cooperate so that the airport and local communities can coexist."
