On the 13th, South Chungcheong Province held a strategy briefing session for securing the 2026 government budget in the main conference room of the provincial government building, attended by Governor Kim Tae-heum and around 60 department and bureau heads, to discuss future response measures.
According to the province, the target amount for next year's government budget has been set at 12.3 trillion won, an increase of 1.3739 trillion won from the final secured amount of 10.9261 trillion won this year. The province aims to demonstrate the strength of "Himssen Chungnam" by achieving this goal.
Governor Kim Tae-heum emphasized, "Although the situation is challenging due to the government's continued sound fiscal management and national instability, we have managed to secure over 1 trillion won more each year, and we will make every effort to achieve the target amount next year as well."
The budget targets by sector for a "Vibrantly Growing Economy" include: selection and approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the advancement of future mobility technology and the establishment of a test bed; 7.8 billion won for the National Defense Future Aviation Research Center; 6.1 billion won for the National Advanced Display Specialized Complex; 5 billion won for advanced semiconductor post-processing materials and components; 49.5 billion won for weapon-emitting display technology development; 1.4 billion won for the Intelligent Sensor Spin-on Support Center; 410 million won for the Seosan Branch of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology; and 30 billion won for the connection between the Seohae Line and the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line.
For "Region-led Development," the province plans to secure: 2 billion won for Chungnam National University Naepo Campus; 130 billion won for Regional Innovation University Support (RISE); 3.2 billion won for the Chungnam Innovation City Science Gifted School; 450 million won for the National Defense Future Technology Research Center; 300 million won for the establishment of the West Sea Research Institute of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology; passing the preliminary feasibility study and 3.5 billion won for the Fisheries Food Cluster; and 1 billion won for the Complex Marine Leisure Tourism City.
Additionally, for a "Warm and Inclusive Community," the province aims to secure: passing the preliminary feasibility study and 7.5 billion won for the construction of Asan Police Hospital; 1.6 billion won for the establishment of the National Dental Research Institute; 2.2 billion won for the establishment of the National Memorial Park; and 11.2 billion won for the National West Coast Wildfire Prevention Center. For "A Valuable and Dignified Life," key projects include: 1.5 billion won for the construction of the Naepo New Town Sports Value Center; 2.2 billion won for the Seosan Branch of the National Gugak Center; 300 million won for the Geumgang National Tourism Road; 1 billion won for the Moss Utilization Green Carbon Cluster; and 1.5 billion won for the National Ecological Trail.
To achieve the national budget target, the province plans to hold policy meetings with ministries and invite National Assembly members for discussions in February and March, conduct visits to ministries by the leadership in April and May, hold progress briefing sessions on ministry budget reflection from June to August, respond to budget deliberations by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and participate in budget policy councils by political parties.
Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "There is some regret that we could have easily achieved our target if the National Assembly had increased the amount," and added, "As government supplementary budgets are being discussed daily, if a supplementary budget is implemented, please review and actively respond to major projects."
He further emphasized, "The easiest way for us is to have our projects reflected in the ministry budgets," and instructed, "Until the ministry budget proposal is submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance in May, department and bureau heads should visit the ministries even ten times if necessary to ensure our projects are included."
