Gwangju Dong-gu (District Chief Lim Taek) announced on the 13th that it is recruiting participants for the "Dong-gu Humanities School 2025 First Half Resident Participation Humanities Program" until the 14th of next month.
Since its opening in January 2022, Dong-gu Humanities School has established itself as a hub for humanities activities, thanks to the steady participation of local residents.
This year, from March to July, the school plans to offer programs such as ▲Humanities Cinema Theater ▲Attic Room Music Journey ▲Proper Food ‘Climate Table’ ▲Me-You-Us, Thought Collection Group.
The "Humanities Cinema Theater" was planned by the school's programmer Jo Daeyoung. It will be held every other Tuesday from June 11 to July 15. Participants will watch films based on notable novels from the 1970s and 1980s, followed by lectures and Q&A sessions about the works. The first session will feature the film adaptation of Haruki Murakami's debut novel "Hear the Wind Sing," directed by Omori Kazuki.
The "Attic Room Music Journey" will be hosted by DJ Moon Hyungsik at 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month from March to July. This program introduces popular songs from the 1970s and 1980s on LP records, along with behind-the-scenes stories, and provides an opportunity for residents to communicate. The first session, on the 5th of next month, will be held under the theme "The Singing Philosopher_Kim Kwangseok."
The proper food program "Climate Table" is organized in collaboration with the Climate Action Vegan Network. It offers participants a chance to make food related to the attitudes we should adopt in response to the climate crisis. It will be held at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month, covering different topics each month: ▲March - Low Carbon Table and Vegan ▲April - Food Crisis ▲May - Biodiversity ▲June - Local Food ▲July - Food Ecosystem, combining theory and practice.
The program "Me-You-Us, Thought Collection Group" aims to promote humanities activities among children and adolescents by connecting humanities with culture, arts, and education, providing a free and diverse artistic experience. Through this, participants learn to respect each other's lives.
Residents who wish to participate in the programs can find more details on the Dong-gu District Office website and the Doodream app. Participation is free, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis until the program begins.
Lim Taek, Chief of Dong-gu District, said, "I hope that many residents and activists will engage in various humanities activities at 'Dong-gu Humanities School,' a space representing Gwangju Dong-gu as a city of humanities, and that everyone can enjoy a warm and peaceful humanities retreat here 365 days a year."
