A fishing vessel capsized off the coast of Jeju, prompting the Coast Guard to launch a rescue operation for the crew members.
According to the Jeju Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, at approximately 7:56 p.m. on February 12, an emergency distress signal was received from the coastal longline fishing vessel A (32 tons), registered in Seogwipo, located 12 kilometers southwest of Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo City, Jeju.
Upon receiving the report, a 500-ton Coast Guard patrol vessel was dispatched to the scene and discovered vessel A overturned. The departure and arrival management system indicated that a total of 10 people were on board. The Coast Guard reported that five people have been rescued so far.
A high seas warning is in effect in the area, with wind speeds reaching 18 to 20 meters per second and waves as high as 3 meters.
