Councilor Kim Miseong Urges Active Efforts for Establishment of Tangjeong No.2 High School and No.7 Elementary School in Asan

Operation of Public-Private Compensation Consultative Body
and Proposal to Link with School Complex Facilities

Councilor Kim Miseong Urges Active Efforts for Establishment of Tangjeong No.2 High School and No.7 Elementary School in Asan Kim Miseong is delivering a 5-minute speech at the 1st plenary session of the 255th extraordinary meeting on the 12th.

On the 12th, Kim Miseong, a member of the Asan City Council in Chungnam, urged the city to take an active role in promoting Tangjeong 2 High School and Tangjeong 7 Elementary School during a five-minute speech at the 255th temporary session's first plenary meeting.

According to Kim, the opening of Tangjeong 2 High School has been postponed from 2026 to 2028 due to issues with securing the site. Tangjeong 7 Elementary School also faced setbacks, as the Ministry of Education's Central Investment Review Committee decided last month to reconsider its establishment.

Kim argued that to secure the site for Tangjeong 2 High School, a compensation consultative body involving the public and private sectors should be operated, and the education office should be urged to provide a student placement plan in response to the delayed opening.

For the establishment of Tangjeong 7 Elementary School, Kim proposed linking the project with a school complex facility initiative. This approach involves constructing facilities such as gyms or swimming pools together with the school, jointly promoted by the local government and the education office through an agreement.

Kim Miseong emphasized, "As the establishment of the schools is delayed, parents are becoming anxious, and elementary students are facing serious safety issues as they cross a six-lane road to and from school," adding, "We must actively promote these projects to meet the residents' wishes for new schools and to improve the quality of education."

Meanwhile, the Asan Office of Education explained that the reason for reconsidering the establishment of Tangjeong 7 Elementary School was that "the Ministry of Education judged that, due to the declining number of students at Tangjeong Elementary and Mirae Elementary, it would be possible to distribute students to nearby schools."

Regarding future plans, the office stated, "We are currently in discussions with citizens and Asan City on various fronts, and unofficially, the possibility of linking the project with a school complex facility is also being discussed."
