President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is currently imprisoned on charges of insurrection, expressed his sorrow and regret regarding the Daejeon elementary school student murder case, stating, "It is very sad and heartbreaking," and added, "I believe the government will do its best to support the victim's family and establish measures to prevent recurrence."
According to the Presidential Office on the 12th, Chief Presidential Secretary Jeong Jin-seok visited the funeral hall of the late Kim Ha-neul (8) and conveyed President Yoon's message to the bereaved family. Presidential Office Social Secretary Jang Sang-yoon also attended the condolence visit.
Chief Secretary Jeong met with the bereaved family and delivered President Yoon's message: "I pray for the repose of the young student whose life was heartbreakingly cut short and offer my condolences to the victim's family. I believe the government will do its utmost to support the victim's family and prepare measures to prevent such incidents from happening again."
Chief Secretary Jeong also promised, "The government will do its best to establish measures to ensure that such tragedies never recur."
Earlier that day, President Yoon conveyed through his legal team, whom he met in the morning, the message: "It is deeply sad and regrettable that such a horrific crime occurred at a school where children should be able to play safely," and added, "It would be good for the Chief Secretary to visit and comfort the family."
Previously, on the afternoon of the 10th, an incident occurred at an elementary school in Daejeon where a female teacher in her 40s murdered Kim Ha-neul and then attempted self-harm. It is reported that the teacher had been suffering from depression since 2018.
