Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 12th that the mobile resident registration card service, supervised by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will be implemented simultaneously in all local governments in the province starting from the 14th.
The issuance of mobile resident registration cards, which has been in pilot operation since the end of last year, will be expanded nationwide in three phases until March 14. The regions included in the first phase, starting from the 14th, are Daegu, Daejeon, Ulsan, Gangwon, Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Jeju.
The mobile resident registration card can be issued to citizens aged 17 or older who have already received a physical resident registration card and wish to obtain one. There are two ways to receive the mobile resident registration card. The “Korea Mobile ID” app must be installed on a mobile phone registered under the applicant’s name.
First, if you apply for and receive a physical resident registration card with an embedded IC chip, you can issue or reissue your mobile resident registration card directly by tapping the IC resident registration card to your mobile phone, without visiting a community service center. The fee is 10,000 KRW.
If you possess a physical plastic resident registration card, you can visit a community service center and scan a QR code for mobile resident registration card issuance at no cost. However, in this case, if you change your mobile phone or delete the app, you must visit the community service center again to reissue the mobile resident registration card. The validity period is three years, after which you can reissue the card using the IC resident registration card or QR code.
For Yeonggwang-gun residents, applications can be made at any township or town office in the county from the 14th to March 27th. After March 28th, applications and issuance will be available at any community service center nationwide.
Meanwhile, if you report the loss of your physical resident registration card, both the physical and mobile resident registration cards will be deactivated. If you report the loss of your mobile phone to your carrier or report the loss of your mobile resident registration card, only the mobile resident registration card will be deactivated.
