National Assembly Speech by Non-Negotiating Group Leader
"Special Prosecutor Bill for Myung Taegyun Gate Must Be Passed"
Kim Sunmin, acting leader of the National Innovation Party, announced on the 12th, "For the complete end of insurrection and the protection of constitutional government, I propose to the National Assembly the formation of a 'Special Committee for the Investigation of Anti-Constitutional Acts.'
In her speech as the representative of a non-negotiating group at the National Assembly that day, Acting Leader Kim said, "We must punish the forces behind the insurrection and their cohorts as soon as possible." She added, "As a first step, we must pass the special prosecutor bill for the Myung Taegyun Gate. The suspicions surrounding Myung Taegyun hold the key to unraveling the secrets behind the insurrection."
She stated, "The independent legal body, the Special Committee for Anti-Constitutional Acts, must be granted investigative authority, and if an investigation is necessary, a permanent special prosecutor should be activated." She argued, "Only then will we be able to fully uncover and record the truth of the insurrection. We must establish grounds for punishment and root out the insurrectionist forces entirely."
Given the increasing likelihood of an early presidential election, Acting Leader Kim also emphasized the need for opposition unity. She said, "Everyone except the far-right insurrectionist forces must unite solidly and win a landslide victory to take power. Only then can we eliminate far-right fascism at its inception, drive anti-constitutional insurrectionist forces away from power, and finally achieve national unity."
She continued, "All those who believe in protecting the constitution and democratic republicanism must unite in a 'new majority coalition.' The Innovation Party has already proposed a roundtable meeting involving all parties and civil society organizations except the insurrectionist forces. The name does not matter."
She also called for reform of power institutions such as the prosecution. Acting Leader Kim stated, "We must reform the power institutions that have conceived and produced the insurrectionist forces, especially the prosecution." She pointed out, "For the past 70 years, the prosecution lingered on the fringes of power, but under the current administration, it has become power itself. Who are the biggest victims of the prosecution? It is Cho Kuk and Lee Jaemyung, the former and current leaders of the two opposition parties."
She also discussed ways to resolve political polarization through a multi-party system. She said, "It is time for pluralistic democracy and a multi-party system to take root in our politics. The National Assembly should establish a special committee for political reform to discuss this." She further urged, "The negotiation bloc standard, which was raised by the Yushin regime to restrict entry into the National Assembly, should be restored to its original state. This does not harm anyone. It is the most important way to prevent sound conservatives from being captured by far-right forces."
Regarding the supplementary budget, Acting Leader Kim said, "Let us pass it within this month. We need to use those funds to address the most urgent issues first." She proposed, "We should also provide 300,000 won per person as insurrection recovery support funds." She added, "This is not money being thrown into the river, but rather, it will be a crucial resource for households in urgent need, and a lifeline for small business owners and the self-employed. As money circulates, it will serve as a catalyst for economic revitalization."
