Taean County, Chungnam Province, announced that it will invest a total of 4.5 billion KRW this year in livestock industry support projects to strengthen the competitiveness of the local livestock sector.

The county plans to promote five support projects this year under the vision of 'Eco-friendly Livestock, Technological Innovation in Livestock': △Korean cattle and beef cattle development △Dairy industry development △Small and medium-sized livestock development △Expansion of forage production base △Improvement of livestock environment and disaster countermeasures.

For 'Korean cattle and beef cattle development,' 600 million KRW will be spent on 23 projects, including improving Korean beef quality, fostering core Korean cattle farms (farms with excellent genetic capabilities), beef traceability systems, and developing regional Korean beef brands. For 'Dairy industry development,' 360 million KRW will be allocated to 14 projects, such as supporting helpers for dairy farms and modernizing dairy facilities.

The 'Forage Production Base Expansion Project' will support 14 projects with an investment of 2.2 billion KRW, including silage production for forage, fertilizer for forage crop cultivation, and forage crop seed costs. The 'Small and Medium-sized Livestock and Livestock Environment Improvement' sector will carry out 39 projects with 1.34 billion KRW, including support for sow replacement in sheep farms, equipment and material support for poultry farms, and reduction of livestock odors.

This year, a total of 2,100 applicants applied for the livestock industry support projects, which is 157% of the budgeted amount. The county plans to select beneficiaries strictly according to support criteria to ensure that no farms are left out.

Additionally, for 11 projects with low demand, an additional demand survey will be conducted this month to provide as many farms as possible with the opportunity to participate.

A county official stated, "Considering the difficult reality of the livestock industry, we are pushing forward with various support projects as quickly as possible," and added, "We will strive to discover and introduce projects that benefit farms through continuous consultation with livestock farmers."
